- 300g butter-margarine mixture
- 100g grated edam cheese
- 100g grated cheddar cheese
- 350g low protein flour
- 50g cornstarch
- 20g powdered milk

- 1 egg yolk
- Grated cheddar cheese for topping

- Preheat your oven according to the recommended temperature for baking cookies.
- In a stand mixer, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
- Add the grated cheese to the butter and mix well until fully combined.
- Gradually add the sifted flour, cornstarch, and powdered milk to the mixture. Stir until the dough comes together and can be easily formed into shapes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about 1 cm.
- Cut the dough into rectangular shapes according to your desired size for Kastengel.
- Place the cut-out dough pieces onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the top of each Kastengel piece with the egg spread mixture.
- Sprinkle grated cheese on top of each Kastengel piece.
- Bake the Kastengel in the preheated oven using the Cookies menu or until they turn dry and golden brown.
- Once baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, the Kastengel is ready to be served.
